NMAA RECOGNIZES 2018-2019 SUBWAY DIRECTOR’S CUP WINNERS
Albuquerque, N.M. – Melrose, Pecos, Sandia Prep, Albuquerque Academy, and Cleveland were all honored on Monday for claiming the Subway Director’s Cup for the 2018-2019 school year.
The Subway Director’s Cup is awarded annually to the top New Mexico Activities Association member schools in each classification based upon success in activities, athletics, and sportsmanship.
Melrose High School took home the Class 1A cup while winning a state championship in boys’ basketball and earning state runner-up finishes in volleyball and girls’ basketball. They also received zero deductions as they had no ejections in 2018-2019.
In class 2A, Pecos High School earned the cup through its state championships in girls’ cross country and boys’ & girls’ basketball. They also finished as the state runner-up in boys’ cross country and cheer.
Sandia Prep claimed the Class 3A cup while winning state championships in boys’ & girls’ soccer and girls’ track & field. In addition, they had state runner-up finishes in volleyball, boys’ swimming & diving, dance, and bowling and received zero deductions as they had no ejections in 2018-2019.
In Class 4A, Albuquerque Academy took home the cup winning state championships in girls’ cross country, boys’ & girls’ soccer, boys’ & girls’ tennis, boys’ & girls’ track & field, girls’ swimming & diving, and mock trial. They also had state runner-up finishes in boys’ cross country, boys’ golf, and chess.
Cleveland High School claimed the Class 5A cup while winning state championships in boys’ cross country, boys’ soccer, girls’ golf, boys’ track & field, and choir. In addition, they finished as the state runner-up in football, girls’ cross country, wrestling, baseball, bowling, and concert band.
