ROSWELL FOOTBALL IS READY TO RELOAD

 In General News, Press Releases

The Roswell Coyotes come into the 2025 high school football season as the Class 5A defending state champs, but they will take the field with a largely different roster than the one that lifted the blue trophy last November.  “It will be pretty much new, we lost 32 seniors,” said head coach Jeff Lynn.  “We have four of our five offensive lineman coming back and a couple skill kids, but we lost eight on defense and seven on offense.”

Coach Lynn does have another group of 32 seniors on this year’s squad. “Hopefully we can reload,” he added. Roswell’s quarterback will be the coach’s son, Luke Lynn.  “He’s the first Lynn to ever play quarterback, so that will be different,” said the head coach. Luke played quarterback as a freshman and sophomore, but spent most of his reps last season at tight end.

Lynn said running back Nate Lujan will have to play well for the Coyotes to be successful and returning wide receiver Colby Sanchez will be in their offensive plans.  “We will have to have some kids step up, they have JV experience, but they don’t have varsity experience.  We’re also replacing our entire defensive line.”

The Coyotes have won three state titles since 2018. Roswell beat Artesia in last year’s final 41-22.  The district rivals will have a rematch in Roswell on October 17th.  Coach Lynn doesn’t think his team feels any pressure entering the season as the defending champs. “Our kids look at the success we’ve had, and they want more of it, so I think it feeds them a little bit,” he said.  “You have to guard against complacency and those things, but I think our kids have done a good job in the offseason, so no pressure.”

Roswell will open the season Friday August 22nd at home against Los Lunas.
