The New Mexico Activities Association is excited to announce the recipients of the 2019-2020 NMAA Foundation Scholarships.  Over 150 students were nominated or submitted applications, with a total of $22,000 being distributed through 18 different scholarships.  There were nine scholarship categories.  The NMAA will recognize each of these students individually on our website and social media platforms.

Triston Charles from Piedra Vista High School received a $1,000 Dan and Lucille Wood/Gray Gladiator Athletic Scholarship presented by Subway.

Triston Charles, a senior at Piedra Vista, is a state champion cross country runner, most recently capturing the 2019 5A Boys Individual title while helping his team to a third-place finish. In 2018, Charles finished third as an individual at the State event.

Charles also participates in soccer and track & field. He was named an All-District selection in cross country twice in 2018 and 2019 and an All-District pick in soccer once. Charles earned All-State honors in cross country in 2019 and has been named a Navajo Times All-Star in both soccer and cross country.

In addition to his athletic accomplishments, Charles carries a 4.22 GPA. He has been named to three academic All-District teams for soccer and two for cross country. In 2019-20, Charles also earned the Navajo Times Runner of the Year.
