Here is a look at just some of the standout swimmers to watch in the pool this weekend and a few of the races they will be competing in.

Girls

Emma Gehlert, Eldorado: Set a meet record this year in the 200yd IM at the Metro Championships and finished third at state in the 200yd IM as a sophomore last year, she also posted the fastest qualifying time this year in the 100yd breaststroke.

Grace Gehlert, Eldorado: Won the 100yd breaststroke as a junior in 2019, but won’t be swimming in that event in 2020.  The senior is considered one of the favorites in the 50yd freestyle race.

Sophia Gossum, Santa Fe Prep: Finished 3rd in the 50yd and 100yd freestyle events as a freshman last year and is back to race in both those races in 2020.

MacKenzie Jarrell, Albuquerque Academy: Finished 2nd in the 200yd IM as a sophomore last season and is out to chase down Eldorado’s Emma Gehlert.

Shyann Kissinger, Clovis: The freshman should set the pace in the 500yd freestyle event.

Hannah Meek, La Cueva: The anchor leg for the Bears in more ways than one.  She posted a couple of the fastest qualifying times in both the 100yd and 200yd freestyle events.

Fiona Trotz-Chavez, Sandia: Won the 100yd backstroke with All-American Consideration time in 2019 and finished tied for second in the 100yd butterfly as well last year.  She is considered the favorite in both races this year.

Boys

Jake Hand, Academy: The senior committed to the University of Arizona.  He is considered one of the top swimmers in the state and has the fastest time in the 200yd individual medley.

Jamin Harlan, Cibola: Finished 2nd in the 200yd freestyle last year as a freshman.  The Cibola sophomore posted one of the fastest qualifying times in the 100yd freestyle event this year.

Orion Henderson, Los Alamos: The super sophomore will be tough to catch in the 500yd freestyle event.

Darien O’Donnell, Eldorado: Posted an All-American Consideration times in the 50yd freestyle and 100yd butterfly events last season as a sophomore (won the 100yd butterfly and finished 3rd in the 50yd free).  He’s entered in the 50yd freestyle event again this year along with being the favorite in the 100yd butterfly race.

Isaac Newman, Eldorado: Set a meet record in the diving event at the Metro Championships and set a pool record at state last year winning the event with a score of 567.60 points.

Mattia Seazzu, Albuquerque: The senior posted the fastest qualifying time in the 200yd freestyle event.

Kendall Southwell, Cleveland: The senior swimmer for the Storm has the fastest qualifying time in the 100yd breaststroke event.

Mario Sumali, La Cueva: Look for the La Cueva sophomore to set the pace in the 100yd backstroke race.
