NMAA FOUNDATION TO AWARD $22,000 IN STUDENT SCHOLARSHIPS

ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico Activities Association is excited to announce the recipients of the 2019-2020 NMAA Foundation Scholarships.

The NMAA Foundation will recognize the students receiving these scholarships during the NMAA State Basketball Championships which will be held March 10-14.

Over 150 students were nominated or submitted applications, with a total of $22,000 being distributed through 18 different scholarships.  There were nine scholarship categories.

The following list details those students who were selected:

 

Extraordinary Participation Scholarship, presented by the NMAA Foundation ($2,500 each)

*given to students excelling in athletics, activities, and academics

  1. Marina Seheon, Highland
  2. Mercedes Mummert, Albuquerque High

 

“Compete with Class” Scholarships, presented by the NM National Guard

*given to students that exemplify the ideals of sportsmanship & the Compete with Class initiative

  1. Jerrick Maldonado, Clovis ($2,000)
  2. Caitlyn Sanchez, Carlsbad ($1,000)
  3. Mia Walker, NMMI ($1,000)
  4. Tristen Gonzales, Santa Teresa ($1,000)
  5. Tyler Ortiz, Moriarty ($1,000)

 

Mario Martinez Memorial Scholarship ($1,000 each)

*given to students excelling in athletics and academics within Class A-2A schools

  1. Ariana MacAuley, Penasco
  2. Jordan Sanchez, Santa Rosa

 

Dan & Lucille Wood/Gray Gladiator Scholarship, presented by Subway ($1,000 each)

*given to students excelling in athletics and academics

  1. Tristan Sena, Melrose
  2. Triston Charles, Piedra Vista

 

Activities Scholarship, presented by Subway ($1,000 each)

*given to students excelling in activities and academics

  1. Krysta Cunico, Robertson
  2. Rae-anne Williamson, Fort Sumner

 

 

El Richards/Francis Walsh Spirit Scholarship, presented by Varsity Spirit ($1,000 each)

*given to students excelling in spirit (cheer/dance) and academics

  1. Jennifer Acosta, Raton
  2. Lexy Lujan, Espanola Valley

 

Coach Dick Shelley St. Michael’s HS Basketball Scholarship ($1,000)

*given to students excelling in basketball and academics

  1. Alicia Varoz, West Mesa

 

Ralph Ortiz BPOE Elks Club of Santa Fe Scholarship ($1,000)

*given to students excelling in athletics and academics

  1. Nataley Mondragon, Melrose

 

Santa Fe Knights of Columbus Scholarship ($1,000)

*given to students excelling in athletics and academics

  1. Devin Gonzales, Pecos

 

 

The NMAA Foundation is a 501(c)3 non-profit organization that was set up in 2007 to support the many students that participate in high school athletic and activity programs across New Mexico.  The funds raised by the Foundation are used for student scholarships and school grants/support.
