 In General News, Press Releases

CLASS 6A

Cleveland 48, Rio Rancho 40

The Storm and Rams went score for score for four quarters and Cleveland came up with their biggest play in the final minute.  Rio Rancho drove all the way down to the one-yard line with a potential game-tying score, but the Storm stopped running back Eric Vigil on fourth down preventing any late-game heroics.  Cleveland running back Dorian Lewis rushed for over 200 yards and five scores.  Rio Rancho quarterback Isaiah Chavez had four scores of his own. It’s Cleveland’s third state football championship.

CLASS 5A

Roswell 25, Los Lunas 19

The Coytoes won back-to-back state titles after beating the Tigers for the second straight year in the championship game.  Roswell put up 10 first-half points to take the early lead, but Los Lunas recorded two second-half scores to take a 12-10 advantage at the break.  On their first drive of the third quarter, Roswell got into the endzone on a flea flicker to Jasia Reece and the Coyotes never trailed after that. Roswell finished the season as the only undefeated team in 2019.

CLASS 4A

Portales 23, Bloomfield 0

The Rams claimed their second blue trophy in the past four years after handing previously unbeaten Bloomfield their first and only loss of the season.  The Bobcats were shut out for just the first time in two years.  Romeo Gbassagee scored the first touchdown of the day on a 40-yard run.  Baylor Diaz and Jordan Garcia added the other two scores touchdowns for Portales.
