NEW MEXICO ATHLETIC DIRECTORS ASSOCIATION ANNOUNCES 2019 SCHOLAR ATHLETE AWARDS

The New Mexico Athletic Directors Association, interscholastic athletic directors in the state of New Mexico, is proud to announce the 2019 NMADA Male and Female Scholar Athlete Award Winners.

2019 NMADA Female Scholar Athlete – Madison Cross, Piedra Vista High School, nominated by Clay Foster, Piedra Vista High School Athletic Director.  Madison has earned 10 varsity letters participating in Soccer and Track & Field.  Several of her athletic accomplishments include multiple all-district recognition ins soccer and track and she also served as team captain for both sports.  Madison received academic all-district honors earning a GPA of 4.4.  Madison is very involved in civic and community activities that include working in her local hospital, delivering meals to the elderly and mentoring youth in area elementary schools.  She will finish high school as her class Salutatorian and plans on attending New Mexico State University to study genetics.

2019 NMADA Male Scholar Athlete – Jason Lyons La Cueva High School, nominated by LeeAnn Moores, La Cueva High School Athletic Director.  Scott has earned 7 varsity letters participating in soccer, tennis and basketball.  Several of his athletic accomplishments include multiple all-district recognitions in both soccer and tennis while serving as team captain.  He is very active in his church and spends hours each week volunteering.  Scott will complete high school with a 4.35 GPA and plans on attending St. Edward’s University in Austin, TX after graduation to play soccer and continue his love of learning.

Nominations are accepted from all current NMADA members and all nominees receive NMADA certificates of award.  There were 13 female scholar-athletes and 9 male scholar-athletes nominated for the 2019 state-wide awards.  The NMADA Scholar Athlete Awards include an individual plaque, a school plaque and a $1500.00 scholarship for each of the two awards (1 male, 1 female).
