WEEK 7 HIGH SCHOOL FOOTBALL PREVIEWS

 In General News, Press Releases

The list of games this week includes a rematch of last year’s 6A championship and a battle of unbeaten teams in Grants.  Here’s a look at some of the matchups this week.

Centennial (6-0) vs
Las Cruces (3-3)
The Bulldawgs are coming off a loss to Hobbs while Centennial held on for a win against Carlsbad last week.  Aside from their game against the Cavemen, the Hawks have blown out their opponents to the tune of 186-43.

Ft.Sumner/House (5-0) at
Cuba (4-1)
The Rams are coming off a bye week as they get ready to host a defending state champ.

Manzano (2-3) vs
La Cueva (6-0)
This is a rematch of last year’s 6A title game.  The Monarchs are a different squad this year and the Bears are trying not to look at this as any revenge game.  “Looking back at last year’s state championship game with any type of revenge would just be a distraction from the task at hand,” said La Cueva head coach Brandon Back.  Manzano coach Phillip Martinez said, “La Cueva is a great team.  One of, if not, the best in the state. They have a great defensive front and play great man coverage.  They have an experienced quarterback, great running back and threats on the outside.  We cannot give up big plays.”

McCurdy (0-6) at
Newcomb (6-0)
I usually don’t preview a matchup of an unbeaten against a winless squad, but I thought it was worth noting that Newcomb is 6-0 for the first time in school history.  “We are very proud of our kids, our assistant coaches, staff and our Newcomb community,” said head coach Eric Stovall.  “Just a lot of fun to watch this team compete.”

Taos (5-0) at
Grants (5-0)
This is a matchup of two unbeatens.  Taos is the current #1 team in their class.  Grants hasn’t allowed a team within 20 points at the end of the night.
