EAGLES PREPARE FOR WEEK 2 CHALLENGE: “IT’S A ‘WANT TO’ GAME THIS WEEK”

 In General News, Press Releases

One of the best matchups in week two of the high school football season is Eldorado at Las Cruces. Both teams are coming off week one wins.

“I think this will be a good game,” said quarterback Gabe Smith.  “I have a strong offensive line and this game is going to be about who’s the strongest, who works the hardest and who wants it more.  I think it’s a ‘want-to’ game this week.”

“You know it’s about getting off blocks with them,” added head coach Charlie Dotson.  “They do such a good job of blocking and maintaining those blocks and giving their running backs seams.  That’s the biggest thing is getting off blocks.”

The Eagles are led by quarterback Gabe Smith.  He’s only 5’7 and 161 pounds , but he’s a dual threat, last season throwing for over two thousand yards and rushing for another 900 yards.

“I’m trying to limit mistakes, the game slowed down a little bit this year,” said Smith.  “I’m just trying to make better passes and run the ball a lot harder and stuff like that.”

“Gabe’s had a great summer and a great start week one, he’s got to stay healthy,” said Dotson.  “He’s a little guy, but he’s tough and can run and pass so we’ll see how it goes.  We just keep our fingers crossed he stays healthy.”

Could this game be a playoff preview of sorts?

“Could be some seeding implications, you never know, but it’s so early and depends who stays healthy and finishes strong,” said Dotson.
