PORTALES ESPORTS COMPETITOR EARNS COLLEGE SCHOLARSHIP
For Parker Mead, gaming became more than a hobby—it became a pathway to college.
The New Mexico student has earned an esports scholarship to compete in Marvel Rivals at New Mexico State University after building an impressive resume at Portales High School. During his prep career, Mead captured five first-place medals and helped guide the Rams to a national ranking of No. 18 in the USA Today Esports Super 25.
Esports has been a family passion for the Meads. Parker’s father, JD Mead, founded the esports program at Portales High School, helping create opportunities for students to compete. Now, Parker is taking the next step, turning years of dedication and success into a collegiate esports career.
Parker was recently featured as part of the third-annual USA TODAYSports/PlayVS esports national signing day. Here is a link to that article https://www.usatoday.com/story/sports/high-school/esports/2026/06/11/parker-mead-portales-esports-new-mexico-state-commitment/90464979007/
