Longtime La Cueva High School girls soccer coach Amber Ashcraft reached a major milestone this week. Ashcraft picked up her 500th career victory with a 10-0 win over Capital High School on Wednesday.  Ashcraft, in her 29th season with the Bears, is already New Mexico’s winningest coach.  According to records at the National Federation of High Schools, Ashcraft is the first female high school soccer coach in the country to reach 500 career wins.

“When I started at La Cueva, never in a million years did I think I would reach this milestone,” said Ashcraft after the win.  “It’s been such a blessing and honor to coach at La Cueva and be a part of this incredible program.”

Ashcraft started coaching the Bears in 1997 and finished with an undefeated record and her first state championship that season.  She has won 10 overall titles as a head coach, including last season in 2024. Her current overall record is 500-93-11.

“It’s crazy to think that I was once a player in the program and now I have coached that many games is mind blowing,” said Ashcraft.
