AVOID FAKE LIVE STREAMS OF EVENTS

 In General News, Press Releases

With fall sports getting underway, the New Mexico Activities Association wants to alert the public and its member schools to a growing trend in internet scamming. Hundreds of Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram and YouTube events will be promoted on social media and they appear to be real live streams, but are actually phishing for personal information.

These posts appear as legitimately scheduled live streams associated with NMAA or a member school and they provide a link or QR code to scan to watch a scheduled live stream. When you click on the link/scan the QR code, you are typically asked to enter personal information to gain access to the video.

These are fake. Please don’t enter any information.

As always, before clicking on any links, make sure the account is reputable. If you come across an account that looks to be fake, report the account as fake and block it.

The NFHS Network (nfhsnetwork.com) is the official video streaming platform of NMAA. Many of NMAA’s member schools utilize this platform for broadcasting needs. However, during the regular season, many schools have decided to use other entities to stream live. Please check with your local high school athletic department for the correct location to watch your favorite team safely.

When on social media, NMAA maintains one single official account on Facebook, Twitter/X, Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube. The authorized version for each platform is: @_NMAA on Twitter/X, @allthingsNMAA on Instagram & TikTok, New Mexico Activities Association on Facebook, and @nmaa3633 on YouTube.
