Portales Senior Is Nation’s Interception Leader
Portales High School is not only #1 in the latest 4A MaxPreps High School Football Rankings for New Mexico’s Class 4A, one of their players also sits on top of the national rankings. Senior linebacker Devin Diaz currently leads the country in interceptions. Diaz has ten interceptions in seven games this season.
“I don’t think that’s something you expect,” said Diaz about his double-digit interceptions. “You know where you need to be, they throw the ball, and you make a play on it.”
“It’s something to be proud of, but I know there’s more I can clean up on and improve,” he added.
“Not only is he an outstanding football player, but he spends a lot of time in the film room, knowing where he needs to be,” said Portales head coach Jaime Ramirez.
The Rams have a bye this week before hosting Albuquerque Academy on October 13th.
