ALBUQUERQUE, N.M. – The New Mexico Activities Association would like to advise the public of important information pertaining to the 2023 Nusenda Credit Union State Basketball Championships.

 

The Class A-5A brackets for boys and girls will be released via the NMAA Selection Show on Sunday, February 26th at approximately 5pm.  The show can be accessed directly from the main page of the NMAA website at www.nmact.org.

 

The first round of the tournament will be played on Friday, March 3rd (Girls) and Saturday, March 4th (Boys) at the home sites of the higher seeded teams.

 

The Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals will be played March 7th-11th in the Albuquerque metro area.  UNM’s The Pit will play host to the majority of the tournament, with all state championship finals being played on Friday, March 10th and Saturday, March 11th.  The Rio Rancho Events Center will host games Tuesday, March 7th – Thursday, March 9th.  Bernalillo High School will host games on Wednesday March 8th.

 

The University of New Mexico will charge $5.00 for parking for all vehicles for games played at The Pit.  Parking is free at the Rio Rancho Events Center and Bernalillo High School.

 

Due to heavy traffic and security protocols at The Pit and the Rio Rancho Events Center, it is recommended that spectators arrive early.  Additional details for the event are listed below.

NOTE – Single day tickets purchased via GoFan or UNM do not allow for re-entry privileges.

 

NOTE – Tournament passes provide access to all rounds/games, re-entry privileges throughout the tournament, and a reserved seat at The Pit.  These will be available for sale through 12noon on Wednesday, March 1st.  For seating options and pricing for these special passes, please contact the NMAA directly at (505) 923-3110.

 

Additional Facility Information:

  • The University of New Mexico will be charging $5 per vehicle for parking.  The Rio Rancho Events Center and Bernalillo HS will not charge for parking.
  • Concession stands will be available (credit card only at UNM & RREC).

Additional Information Specific to Members of the Media for The Pit:

  • WORKING media with a valid 2022-2023 NMAA Media Credential may cover the event.
  • Media members should park in the Pit East Lot behind the UNM Baseball Field and enter the facility through the Southeast / McDavid Lounge Entrance.  Access via the ramp/media room area WILL NOT be available.  A valid NMAA media credential must be presented to obtain complimentary parking and admission to the facility.
  • Working Media Seating
    • Radio and print media will use the first row on the East side of the arena.
  • Media Workroom
    • Space within the media work room will be limited and cannot be used for an extended period of time.  Please plan to finalize your work off-site.
  • Media Interview Room
    • Interviews with players and coaches from each team will be limited.  A maximum of three athletes and one coach from each team will be allowed in the interview room.  Media members will have no more than five (5) minutes with each team for interviews.
  • There will be a hospitality room available for media members, but this area has been relocated to north end of the upstairs suite level of The Pit.  Individuals can access this area with a valid media credential via the stairs located on the northeast side of the arena near the McDavid Lounge.  The hallway along the east side of suite level will then lead to the hospitality area.

Additional Information Specific to Members of the Media for the RR Events Center:

  • WORKING media with a valid 2022-2023 NMAA Media Credential may cover the event.  Only those outlets covering a specific school/athlete will be granted access.
  • There is no assigned parking lot for media, but there is also no charge to park at the Rio Rancho Events Center.  Individuals with proper credentials will be able to access the facility at the east entrance (main entrance).
  • Media will be allowed courtside access at the tables on the north side of the court.  This area will again be for WORKING MEDIA only.  Working media may also utilize the RREC press box area which is located upstairs on the northwest side of the arena.
  • There will again be a media workroom located in the “back of the house” areas of the RREC.  In addition, the media interview room will be in this area as well.  ALL interviews must take place in the media/interview room (nothing courtside or within media row).  A maximum of two athletes and one coach from each team will be allowed in the interview room.  Media members will have no more than five (5) minutes with each team for interviews.
  • There will be a hospitality room available for media in the VIP Lounge located on the east side of the second level of the arena.
