HUSKIES HOPE TO CAP OFF THE PERFECT SEASON

 In General News, Press Releases

The Hope Christian girls soccer team has been perfect so far this year. “They’re super resilient, hard-working,” said head coach Amy Fankam. “They’re just competitors, every day competitors, nothing’s good enough for them.  Even big wins, they want to improve every day.”

“We work super hard at this, it’s not like it just came naturally, we’ve worked all summer,” said junior Savanah Sanchez.  “I’m happy we’re here right now because all this training is paying off.”

The Huskies have outscored the competition 134-12 in their first 19 games this year.  Hope Christian has one of the top goal scorers in the state in junior Savanah Sanchez, who has recorded 50 goals and 118 points so far this season. “I’ve been working on trying not to turn as much so I don’t run into pressure,” said Sanchez.  “I just want to pass and move.  As much as I’d like to score, I’d also like to give assists to help my team out because a goal is a goal.”

Hope Christian won it all in 2021 for the sixth state championship in program history. “It was the best feeling ever,” described Sanchez.  “My freshman year we lost and that was the worst feeling ever and I never want to feel that again, so it’s our goal to win.  Until I leave, I want to win every year.”

They will try to make it back-to-back blue trophies this November.  Hope Christian (19-0) will wrap up the regular season on Thursday against Del Norte.
