THE HOBBS BOYS SOCCER TEAM IS #OneFamily

 In General News, Press Releases

The Hobbs Eagles boys soccer team stormed the field following their victory over Cleveland at the Academy Invitational earlier this month.  They hope for a similar celebration at the state tournament. “Last year we were seeded number four and coming back from that I think we’re a threat,” said senior Yahir Chacon.

Hobbs last won a soccer state championship in 1997, but they appeared in the final game in 2000 and 2019. “We’re always hungry and willing to put the work in every day in and out of practice,” said Chacon.  “Long hours and long practices, I mean long,” he joked.

“I have a lot of faith in this team and I most definitely think we can take it this year,” said senior goalie Misael Orona.

Hobbs has five shutouts this year and hasn’t given up more than two goals in any match so far this season.  Their strategy is two is better than one in front of the net. “We have two goalkeepers this year,” explained head coach Alejandro Chavez.  “Misael Orona has been with me since his sophomore year.  I’m blessed to have him.  He’s a great kid with a good attitude.  Diego Castanon is a sophomore and always steps up.”

The Eagles have a hashtag slogan which they printed on the back of their warmups. “The slogan is One Family,” explained Orona.  “Not just us, but the community as well.  I think we are all one big family with much love for the whole team.”

“We’re a team, we’re brothers, and coach is like our dad,” said Chacon.

“I have a lot of energy,” said the third-year head coach.  “I feel like if the boys put in energy, I have to put in energy too.  We all have a passion for the game and if we put the passion all together, that’s the best.”

This family hopes to have a blue trophy to lift in November.  Hobbs is currently 10-2-1 with a road game against La Cueva on Thursday.
