MELROSE PITCHERS POST A PAIR OF NO-NO’S

 In General News, Press Releases

The Melrose High School baseball team has a very unique start to the season.  The Buffaloes are 3-4 on the year, but two of their three wins include no hitters.  On March 21st, Melrose beat Floyd 19-1 and sophomore pitcher Dathan Yeary recorded 15 strikeouts and tossed a no hitter (one of his strikeouts was a passed ball swing and miss and the batter reached base safely).  A week later, on March 28th, Melrose shutout Dora 18-0 and Michael Cardonita, also a sophomore, threw a no-no with 11 Ks.

Both pitchers are sophomores, both throw right-handed, both are taller than 6-feet, and both are 4-sport athletes at Melrose.  “Cardonita has good velocity and a good curveball and Yeary has a decent breaking ball and good command,” said head coach Cody Draper.

Melrose will host Cimarron for a doubleheader on Thursday.  “I believe if we play to our potential, we can beat a lot of teams,” said Draper.
