The high school golf spring season is underway.

The Albuquerque Academy and Piedra Vista boys golf teams posted the low team-totals of the day at the annual Shootout in the Desert golf event at the Canyon Club on Monday.  The Chargers and Panthers both put together a score of 327, 20 shots better than third-place Belen.  St. Pius X was fourth with 352.  Individually, Grady Cox of Belen, Neil Parasher of Albuquerque Academy and Quinn Yost of Piedra Vista, all posted the low round of the day with a 74.

“It’s good for the kids to get back,” said Piedra Vista head coach Tom Yost.  “I know it’s a limited field because of COVID, but it’s good to see the kids back and they’re excited.  It’s the start to the season.”

On the girls side, Albuquerque Academy finished first with a team score of 363, edging out second-place Piedra Vista by two shots.  St. Pius X was third with 376.  Socorro finished fourth with a one-day total of 383.  Individually, Socorro’s Harley Richardson took medalist honors with a round of 76, two shots better than Piedra Vista’s Shandiin Harper.
