ARBITER HELP

Athletic Directors – There have been a lot of questions on how to use the Arbiter. If you, an assistant or an administrative assistant need help with the arbiter please email Nate at nate@nmact.org or call (505)923-3286.

HIGH SCHOOL ACTIVITIES MONTH

October is National High School Activities Month.  It is a time to celebrate the contributions and benefits young people experience by participation in sports and activities.  NMAA member high schools are encouraged to promote the values inherent in interscholastic athletics and activities. Each week during October will have a different focus. October 22-31 is National Community Service/Youth Awareness Week.  It is a time to promote giving back to our communities and youth sports involvement.

MY REASON WHY

There are countless benefits to participating in high school sports and activities, but a lot of concerns as well. To overcome resistance and drive participation, #MyReasonWhy highlights diverse stories and memories shared by students, parents, coaches, officials and community members. We’re working together to show how participation not only develops individual skills and character for the future, but drives a stronger sense of self and community that students will feel immediately and for the rest of their lives. To share your story visit www.nfhs.org/MyReasonWhy and share your story.

AD’s TIP OF THE WEEK

Seeding and Selection. The seeding and selection guidelines for state tournament play are located in Section 7.11 of the NMAA Handbook. In most sports, these are repeated in the sports-specific web site along with the “Coach Input” form for each sport. Please insure that your coaches complete the Coach Input form and submit this to the NMAA in advance of the selection/seeding deadline, as posted.

FEATURE STORY IDEAS

Attention Athletic Directors – If you have a student-athlete or a student in an activity at your school that you feel has a good story to tell, the NMAA would like to tell that story for you. Please email Tyler Dunkel at tyler@nmact.org or call at 505-923-3295 and share your feature story ideas.

COMPETE WITH CLASS NOMINATIONS
In an effort to establish and sustain the Compete with Class initiative, the NMAA will be highlighting acts of sportsmanship through various awards and recognition programs during the 2017-2018 school year.  In order to do this, our office NEEDS YOUR HELP!  Acts of sportsmanship by individuals, coaches, officials, administrators, spectators, or teams as a whole should be reported to the NMAA office as they occur.  Photos of these acts would also be appreciated.  Send your nominations to Tyler Dunkel at tyler@nmact.org.
