Wrestling Rules Clinic Introduction
Scott Evans, NMAA Assistant Director1. Changes to NMAA Wrestling Regulations.
• State Tournament Qualifying – NMAA 7.23.5.B – the top 16 wrestlers per weight class by record in classes 4A & 5A, top 8 wrestlers per weight class by record in class 3A.*
*Note – The Wrestling Sport Specific Committee recommended that Class 3A qualifying be reduced to levels comparable to 4A & 5A on a percentage basis. This recommendation was approved by the NMAA Commission and NMAA Board of Directors.
2. Changes to NMAA Wrestling Weight Management Program.
• The criterion variance has been increased from .5 lbs to 1 lb. and will be added to the 1 lb. (2.0 lbs total) as part of the data entry into the Tanita TBF 300WA at the time of assessment. (NMAA WWMP C.5.)
• Schools may now prepare and use weigh-in forms from the NWCA OPC (which includes minimum wrestling weight/weight class information) rather than the NMAA Weigh-in Form and the NWCA OPC Alpha Master Report.
3. Points of Emphasis for 2007-08.
• Recruitment and Retention of Officials
• Control of Communicable Skin Conditions
• Pursuing Victory with Honor
The points of emphasis for 2007-08 represent issues that challenge participation in the sport of wrestling and the effectiveness of an education-based athletic experience. Please focus your efforts in these areas and help us make high school wrestling in New Mexico something we can all be proud of!
