Another season, another great year!! I am truly looking forward to this season as tennis participation is increasing on a yearly basis. In 2007, over 600 student-athletes competed during the two weekends of the state tournament, and approximately 900 athletes were listed on varsity rosters. Add in the participants at the USTA Middle School and JV levels, and we had almost 2000 student-athletes participating in education based tennis. Phenomenal!! You are making a difference.
This year’s rules clinic is broken down into two sections. Becky Mullins and I have encompassed all that you need to know into the “tennis” portion of the Handbook. Please make note of two “new” rule changes:
1. 7.20.1 G – Member schools must declare lineups to our office by April 20th, 2008. These lineups will be used for the remainder of the season, in particular the state tournament.
2. 7.20.4 C 5 – Matches in the team competition in the semifinals and finals will not be played out if the team result has been decided. Please make sure parents are aware of this rule change.
The State Team Championships will be held on May 8-10 and the Individual Championships on May 16-17. Continue to check the website for more information as the state tournament draws closer.
