Dear Athletic Directors, Coaches, and Officials,
As you may already know, several major changes have occurred in the sport of soccer for the upcoming year.
The State Championships will be moved to the brand new Albuquerque Public Schools Soccer complex; located just west of Volcano Vista High School on Albuquerque's west-side. The APS Soccer Complex includes four turf fields, all with lights. The fields are approximately, 105 x 60 yards; Unit IV will include more information on the 2009 State Championship tournament.
Another major change occurred when the NMAA Board of Directors voted to eliminate Soccer Pool Play. This action was taken due to budgetary concerns of school districts throughout the state. Other tournament format changes also occured in the sports of volleyball (elimination of pool play), baseball (elimination of two out three in the 1st round), softball (elimination of double elimination tournament) and tennis was reduced from two weeks, to one week.
The NMAA has recently implemented universal district tie breaking procedures for all team sports. The new district tie breaking procedures for the sport of soccer are highlighted in Unit IV of this rules clinic.
Finally, the NMAA is excited to announce that the Wilson Optima H8005 Soccer ball will be the official soccer ball of the 2009 State Soccer Championships.
The NMAA truly appreciates the time that you have taken today to review and learn about the rule changes and State Championship information for the 2009 Soccer season.
Three years ago the NMAA adopted the "on-line rules clinic." We feel that it has improved the level of communication with our member schools as well as reduced travel time and costs associated with past district clinics.
The following on-line rules clinic will detail important areas regarding the sport of Soccer; for example the misconduct progression rule, the shinguard rule and State Championship information. All pertinent information that you will need to know for this season will be listed in one of the six units. You will need to review each of these units prior to August 31st to receive credit. Please complete each of these sections and feel free to contact me with questions related to this district clinic at any time.
Thank you and good luck with your season.
