IN THE NEWS:
PRE-SEASON MEETINGS FOR ALL SPORTS- NMAA Board policy requires that schools submit documentation on the required pre-season meetings for all sports before the start of each season (fall, winter, spring) for athletes, parents and coaches. These meetings must be held for each sport prior to the first regular season contest(s). Please mail or fax the forms to the NMAA (505.923.3114) to avoid sanctions. Click here for these forms. For a sample agenda/outline click here.
CONCUSSION MANAGEMENT:
Please ensure that all coaches (head and assistant) complete the Concussion Management course, print out the certificate at the end and submit to their athletic director. This course is free of charge and applies to all coaches (paid and volunteer), grades 7-12, in all sports. You can access the course by going to http://nfhslearn.com or by going to the NMAA homepage and clicking on, "Concussion Management -Athletic Director Requirements under SB1". Click here to access this page.
MVP ACCOUNTS- Athletic directors, please be sure to communicate with your coaching staff that they need an account in the MVP 2.1 system. These accounts must be established in order for your coach (es) to receive sport specific information sent through the MVP system. Due to the change from Spirit as an activity to Spirit as a sport, Spirit coach roles must be re-requested in order for those coaches to appear on your school’s page. Those roles must be established as soon as possible and applies to ALL spirit coaches, competitive or non. For more information regarding MVP accounts contact Bill Cleland (bcleland@nmact.org or 505.923.3271).
FALL SPORT SCHEDULES:
A reminder to all Athletic Director’s, please make sure all fall sport coaches are posting their schedules and rosters online. The deadline for all fall sport rosters to be posted online is September 15, 2010 before sanctions will be imposed. Also, please have your coaches’ check the times of their games to which they post, specifically the time of day (am/pm) as some games have been posted as starting at 7:00a.m. rather than p.m. If you are experiencing problems posting schedules and/or rosters on the NMAA website contact Bill Cleland at bcleland@nmact.org.
NEW ATHLETIC DIRECTORS:
A few spots remain in the 2010-11 New Mexico Rookie AD Cohort program for first year (and maybe second year if space allows) athletic directors – click here for additional information/registration.
DIRECTORS CUP APPLICATIONS:
Director’s Cup applications are due in the NMAA office on Friday 8/27/2010. The NMAA will be honoring the top three schools in each classification with a plaque to be awarded at the Annual Meeting Luncheon. If your school is one of the big three in your classification, make sure that you don’t miss out on this prestigious honor due to the fact that you did not apply in a timely manner.
HOME SCHOOL REFERENDA:
All Home School Referenda’s are due to the NMAA office by September 3, 2010. Please be sure to submit these as your vote counts and we value your input. The referenda was mailed out via the MVP Messaging system. You may submit your vote via fax at 505.923.3114.
SCHOLASTIC PULICATIONS:
The New Mexico Scholastic Publications Association will be hosting their first annual fall conference on Saturday, September 11, 2010. Please see the Scholastic Publications page of the NMAA website for more information.
SPIRIT:
The make-up spirit summit, including the spirit rules clinic, will be available online beginning Wednesday, August 25, 2010. All coaches who did not attend the spirit summit during the summer coaches’ clinic, competitive or side-line only, must attend. Coaches who did attend have met the rules clinic requirement and do not need to complete the clinic online.
