2008-2009 Seeding and Selection Criteria
On June 5, 2008, by a unanimous vote, the Board of Directors approved revising the seeding and selection criteria for Class 3A-5A for the 2008-2009, 2009-2010 school years. The regular season district champion will be the only team to automatically advance to the State Championships.
The only time a regular season district runner up will automatically advance is if they win the District Tournament (volleyball and basketball are the only sports that have district tournaments). The district champ will be seeded with the at large teams depending on the number of teams in the bracket (i.e. football 12 teams, soccer 12 teams, volleyball 12 teams, basketball 16 teams, softball 16 teams, baseball 16 teams).
Seeding and Selection Representatives
Please see attached seeding and selection representative form, which is due on September 1 for Fall sports.
Ejection Application
The New Mexico Activities Association requires that all coaches, school personnel and athletes who have been ejected from a game or contest complete an on-line educational program in order to be approved to participate again.
NMAA bylaw 7.7.2 states that “any coach or participant who is ejected from an athletic contest/game, regardless of sport, is required to sit out the next contest/game minimally, at all levels. This penalty is the responsibility of the local school district to impose. This sanction is subject to final approval by the NMAA after such violation is reported within a reasonable time frame but prior to the next contest. In addition to the one game suspension, ejected parties must complete the on-line PVWH component prior to returning to competition.”
Click here to access the “Ejection Application”
MVP System
The MVP system will be used to report all "varsity" rosters, schedules and scores during the 2008-2009 school year.
As a reminder, all coaches must create an MVP account and have an approved role (position) in order to receive credit for attending the on-line rules clinic. Click here to download an MVP Tip Sheet; to help with the creation of MVP accounts.
PURSUING VICTORY WITH HONOR WORKSHOPS:
To schedule a Pursuing Victory With Honor workshop, please contact Kristin Derr, NMAA Assistant Director, at 505.923.3265 or kderr@nmact.org PVWH workshops will cost $250.
VIDEOS NEEDED:
The NFHS is excited about the development of a new officials education program. The program is an outgrowth of an initiative begun several years ago by a number of member state associations in the Midwest, and it will replace the NFHS officials education program developed with an outside provider almost six years ago. The platform for the new program is web-based, and it entails the use of video clips and other educational materials that illustrate proper rules decisions and mechanics. As we try and provide our member schools with the best state tournament possible, location of the tournament for some classes has changed. Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho is in the process of purchasing volleyball courts in order to bring the sport to the Center. Thus, the change. The following is a list of the new locations:
Class 3A-5A: Pool Play, 1st Round, and Quarterfinals will be played at Santa Ana Star Center in Rio Rancho. Semifinals and Finals will be at Johnson Center on the campus of UNM.
Class A-2A: Pool Play, Quarterfinals, Semifinals, and Finals will all be played at Johnson Center (UNM).
The change allows all schools to play their state tournament matches away from high school sites. The time schedule will be posted on the website at the beginning of next week.
Many schools have indicated that they will have a "Volley for the Cure" match in October. We encourage all of you to pick a match in the month of October to promote breast cancer awareness. Please let me know the date of your match so the NMAA can accomodate your needs for that day.
The NMAA is looking for an athletic director in the Northwest part of the State who is a member of the NMADA to serve on the volleybal sports specific committee. If you are interested, e-mail smarquez@nmact.org.
