IN THE NEWS:

On Wednesday May 6 the New Mexico Activities Association Board of Directors met in emergency session following an announcement on the afternoon of May 5 from the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention, the New Mexico Department of Health and the New Mexico Public Education Department that school closures in New Mexico were no longer necessary for health reasons.

The NMAA Board of Directors unanimously voted to approve practice as normal immediately at the beginning of the thirty-five minute meeting.

The NMAA Board of Directors also voted upon and approved the following revised schedule for the Spring State Championship events.

Class 3A-5A- Each district will determine the date of their district championship meet. All district championship meets must conclude by Monday, May 11.

Because President Obama is scheduled to speak at Rio Rancho High School on Thursday morning at 10:30 am,Obama.jpg teams and specatotors playing in the State Baseball championships at Rio Rancho High School, should plan to arrive early at the game and follow the directions below:
Take 528 (Coors) to Northern, make a left on Northern.
Go approximately 3 miles and take a left (South) on Broadmore.
Take a left into the Baseball/ Track & Field Complex entrance.
If you go all the way to Loma Colorado, you have gone too far.

 


NMAA RELEASES 2009-2010 EVENT CALENDAR:
The NMAA would like to release its calendar for the 2009-2010 school year. All superintendents, prinicipals, athletic directors and activity directors will be receiving a hard copy of the NMAA calendar in the coming weeks. LIFE OF AN ATHLETE PROGRAM:
With the assistance of the "American Athletic Institute," a New York based sport consulting firm, the New Mexico Activities Association will implement an alcohol education program to combat underage drinking amongst students in New Mexico in the Fall of 2009. This program will be geared toward student-athletes and will focus on the negative effects alcohol consumption has on athletes’ lives and their athletic performance.

The NMAA and the American Athletic Institute will conduct one-day training seminars during the first week of August 2009.

Each attendee will receive valuable materials and a CD Rom with a wealth of information to help develop an effective and beneficial alcohol education program at your school. Registration is FREE!

ALIGNMENT AND CLASSIFICATION:
The Board of Directors approved a revised Alignment and Classification proposal, which is posted onto the NMAA website- click here to download. The newest proposal includes two classifications for the sport of Swimming & Diving. The date of appeals has been changed to June 3.

MEMBERSHIP DUES AND FEES:
Invoices for 2009-2010 membership dues and fees will be mailed this week.

 

INVOICES:
Payments for invoices incurred during the 2008-2009 school year are to be paid and recieved by the NMAA no later than June 30. Please refer to NMAA Handbook, Section 5.1.5.B regarding late payments of invoices.

 

NMAA FOUNDATION GOLF TOURNAMENT:Foundation_Logo_75_x_118.jpg
The NMAA Foundation will host its Annual Golf Tournament at Tierra Del Sol Golf Course in Belen on May 22, 2009. There will be an 8:00 AM flight, as well as a 1:30 PM flight. Entry fee is $125 per player or $500 per team, with all proceeds going to student scholarships. Entry fee includes green fees, cart, polo, range balls, lunch, player gifts and packets.
