Ejection Applicaton: The New Mexico Activities Association requires that all coaches, school personnel and athletes who have been ejected from a game or contest complete this online educational program before being allowed to participate again.
NMAA bylaw 7.7.2 states that any coach or participant who is ejected from an athletic contest/game, regardless of sport, is required to sit out the next contest/game minimally, at all levels. This penalty is the responsibility of the local school district to impose. This sanction is subject to final approval by the NMAA after such violation is reported within a reasonable time frame but prior to the next contest. In addition to the one game suspension, ejected parties must complete an online PVWH component prior to returning to competition. Click here to attend the ONLINE EJECTION COMPONENT.
2011-12 Welcome
The NMAA staff and I are truly excited about the 2011-12 school year and are looking forward to another great junior high and middle school year of competition and student participation. Please be reminded of two state laws which impact junior high and middle schools --- SB 1 Concussion Law and the School Athletics Equity Act. I am excited to report that the number of member junior high and middle schools has grown from 187 schools to 191. Here are some of the highlights and new information that will be posted on this new section of the NMAA website:
New 2011-12 NMAA ByLaws and State Law Changes
Senate Bill 1 - Concussion Law Grades 7-12 (State Law)
50 Point Mercy Rule Football (Game ends like high school)
Title IX Reporting School Year 2010-11 (State Law)
The New NMAA Life of an Athlete online education program is "highly recommend" for all New Mexico student-athletes as New Mexico is #1 in underage drinking. The online education program also covers important information on how the use of alcohol impedes peak athletic performance and has valuable resources for students, parents, and coaches to prevent alcohol use and abuse.

Recent Bylaw Changes and Revisions
There are some changes for the upcoming school year that was voted on by the NMAA membership (Junior High / Middle School Committee), Commission, and Board of Directors. These changes are summarized below:
• Senate Bill 1 - Concusion Law. All coaches in grades 7-12, players, and parents must sign off on the new concussion law. Coaches must complete the free online concussion class and print their certificate of completion every school year (30 minutes).
• The 35 point mercy rule in football has been revised to be the same as the high school NF rule. After halftime the clock runs. If the game reaches a 50 point differential and game ends after halftime like high school. If a game ends in a tie, there is no overtime for safety (9.4.D)
• Schools that play football with large numbers of student participant’s are now allowed to have 7th grade teams to promote student participation and playing time. 6th graders may not play football.
• Transfers after the 10th day of the semester must wait for the 10 day rule so that the receiving school can receive the grades and paperwork from the sending school and to avoid forfeits due to academic ineligibility. Forms A, B, and C are not required for middle school transfer like high school (8th grader playing up at high school level).
• Please remember the rule changes where game limits were increased for softball, baseball, and basketball teams two years ago.
A student may make up one core class (math, science, English, social studies) in summer school, and schools may use the semester grades to help students be eligible for sports at the end of each semester (passed 2007-08).
