2007-2008 Welcome
The NMAA staff and I are truly excited as we enter the 2007-08 school year. The upcoming school year is just a few short weeks away, and the entire state is looking forward to another great junior high and middle school year of competition and student participation. I am excited to report that the number of member junior high and middle schools has grown from 178 schools to 182. This school year we are excited to announce and post our junior high and middle school section four our 182 member schools to have additional resources to contact other member schools for scheduling and to also keep updated with the continuous improvement of our NMAA Section IX Handbook and best practices. Here are some of these highlights and new information that will be posted on this new section of the NMAA website:

Recent Bylaw Changes and Revisions
There are some changes for the upcoming school year that were voted on by the NMAA membership (Junior High / Middle School Committee), Commission, and Board of Directors. These changes are summarized below:
» Basketball and softball game limits for junior high and middle school teams have been increased on an optional school basis from 12-15 to 18 games if your school or school district can afford these new games.
» Students may make up one core class (math, science, English, social studies) during summer school to become eligible for fall sports. An elective class may not be used. Reading, literacy, and math block classes are acceptable as we know that every class a students fails can not be offered by every school district. If the students makes up the same exact class the new grade replaces the F, if it is a different class the grade is counted along with the F and you divide by 7 classes instead of 6 to determine eligibility for fall sports.
» Schools at the semester may also use the high school rule of also looking at the semester grades to help the student remain eligible for sports. You must check the nine weeks grades first before continuing on to the semester grades.
