Board Summary 9-27-06
Items of interest as a result of the Board of Directors meeting on September 27, 2006:
Minimum requirements for high school athletic directors to verify in determining eligibility of alternative school students prior to participation in athletics at their local high school was established. Those requirements are as follows:
Approval for background checks on all officials was approved.
Petitions to the NMAA office for students who will participate at the sub-varsity level only were eliminated. Schools must still generate Form C and have a file on each of these students.
A and AA Regional Tournaments in volleyball and basketball were restructured. The regional volleyball and basketball tournaments will now become the “First Round of State” with single games held at the District Champion home sites. This will begin with the current two-year block. See Section 7 of the handbook specifically volleyball and basketball.
Seeding criteria was altered to include “one district team cannot be seeded or selected higher than another who came out of district as a lower seed with regular season taking precedence over tournament play.”
Junior/Middle School wrestling start date was changed to the Monday of Week #16 to allow more participation in both wrestling and basketball due to facility conflicts.
Football Officials will only be permitted to call a maximum of two post season games for the same school starting with the 2008-2009 school year.
Increasing the soccer roster limitation from 22 to 24 players FAILED.
A World Cup format for the state soccer tournament will be implemented with the 2008-2009 school year.
Swimming & Diving teams will be required to participate in a district swimming & diving meet beginning with the 2008-2009 school year.
Qualifying marks will be set for a two year block for the sport of Track & Field starting with the current year.
The State Track & Field Championships will conclude no later than 6:00 PM on both weekends (as per the Advisory Referenda); starting with the current year.
The Tennis State Team Championships will start on Thursday evening beginning with the current school year.
Golf bylaws will now read: “Do not round off course ratings: Round the total to the nearest whole number in normal fashion after scores have been shot.”
Increasing the basketball roster limitation from 12 to 15 players FAILED.
