Moratorium Dates
The NMAA Board of Directors voted to change the language of the “two week moratorium” that was scheduled to take effect this coming summer. The NMAA will not mandate that schools have a moratorium period; however the NMAA will encourage schools to impose their own moratorium depending upon the make up of their communities. The rationale for this change is that the NMAA Board of Directors has come to the conclusion that it would be difficult for the NMAA staff to police this issue and that summer activities should come under the local school’s supervision.
Official exclusion system
The NMAA Board of Directors approved a revised official and school/coach exclusion system. Coaches must provide written rationale when excluding an official; just as officials will be required to also provide written justification when excluding a particular school or coach.
Officials Pay
The NMAA Board of Directors approved a 6% officials pay increase (rounded to the nearest dollar) in all sports for the upcoming school year (2007-2008).
Official Assignors Fee
The NMAA Board of Directors approved a more standardized system for paying officials assignors as to create equality in all sports where assignors are needed.
Alignment and Classification
The NMAA Board of Directors voted to send out an advisory referenda by March 28 with a variety of questions concerning the alignment and classifications issues for 2008-2010. Dates for appeals/ reviews regarding the proposed alignment and classification will be listed on the NMAA website, along with the Advisory referenda, no later than March 28.
Junior High Baseball/ Softball
The NMAA Board of Directors voted to increase the junior high game limitations for baseball and softball from the present 12 games to 18 games if the middle/ junior high school chooses to do so.
Co-Oping
The NMAA Board of Directors approved allowing Santa Fe Prep in conjunction with other Santa Fe area member schools to co-op in baseball – no post season or district play will be permitted.
