Basketball Rules Introduction
Sally Marquez, NMAA Associate DirectorCoaches,
Every year there is a sense of anticipation for the upcoming basketball season. Some teams set goals to be District or State Champions, while others strive to be one of the 16 selected to the State Tournament. Whatever the goal, each school will be successful as long as all kids learn about the “game of life” during the season.
This year, please remember what is important. It is not wins and losses, or X’s and O’s. What is important is teaching your athletes life long skills through the exciting and competitive game of basketball.
Every day we read the paper about unfortunate tragedies our teenagers are facing. It puts athletics in perspective when you reflect on what is important on a daily basis. Showing your student athletes that you care and providing them the important tools to lead them in the right direction towards their development as productive adults after their high school years should be your focus.
Interscholastic athletics is an extension of the classroom. Be a teacher and mentor on the court. Be a leader!
The best of luck to you this season as you pursue your goals.
Sincerely,
Sally Marquez
