Golf Workshop

Please make an important commitment to your players by attending the 2008 Golf Coaches Workshop and/or the NMAA District Clinic. The Rules of Golf state that “the player (and his caddie) are responsible for knowing the Rules.”  It is the player who will incur the consequence of a breach of the Rules and lack of knowledge will not excuse the penalty.

When there are Rules of Golf revisions, explanations or changes, they are published every four years by the United States Golf Association.   Decisions on the Rules of Golf are revised and published every two years.  2008 is the year for both.  There are a few significant changes to each text this year that will certainly change our thoughts and actions in several situations.  Maggie Geisenhagen from the USGA will present the educational sessions on the 2008 Rules of Golf and Decisions Changes and Revisions.  Rules of Golf and Decisions Books will be provided.  You can get a preview of the Rules changes by visiting www.USGA.org.   Visit the Rules section.

Your endeavor as a golf coach in learning the Rules of Golf with your players is essential to preventing Rules infractions by your players and perhaps of even keeping them and/or your team in an event.  Consequences for Rules infractions in the game of golf cannot be recalled for ignorance of the Rules any more than a violation in any other sport.
