What To Do With Your Gross Receipts Tax Number…

Our office has received numerous phone calls and emails regarding what officials do with their gross receipts tax number now that they are exempt from paying GRT. We received word from the State Department of Taxation and Revenue today that officials may cancel their GRT numbers if they would like to do so. They stated that if officials have taxable receipts in the future, they can keep their numbers open by filing zero returns at their normal filing times. As a reminder, the exemption applies only to NMAA sanctioned activities.

If you officiate any Little League, YAFL or other leagues for which you receive and pay GRT, you still must keep your number and file with the state. If you would like more information from the State Department of Taxation and Revenue on this matter, please go to their web site at www.state.nm.us/tax. If you would like to cancel your GRT number, you can use the tax registration update form from the TRD by CLICKING HERE. See box 5 of the form to change the business registration status to “closed.
